Blue people (and red, green and yellow)
We haven’t posted a journal for a while because since we arrived on Monday at 1pm after a last dash to get booze, propane and a spare cooler before passing through the gates, we have been acclimatising to the Burn environment. Against all advice we took the dirt road to Burning Man from Winnemeuca, we almost lost our teeth because the road was so bumpy, but it afforded us spectacular views of the desert as we drove in, and shaved two hours off our journey to Gerlach.
It seems that we made the right choice when we decided to camp with the VW owners. Within two hours of arriving we had been introduced to everyone within a 500 metre radius of our bus, been given a cocktail and invited to dinner by the camps unofficial head honcho, Bruce, more about him later. The day was hot hot hot and we spent much of it setting up camp and exploring the vast expanse of camp in the middle of a dust storm. Everything has a fine layer of powdery dust over it. Our first night we were pretty tired and went to bed early, but last night we explored more into the night, partly on foot and then partly in ‘Trixie’ our camps little bus. We visited the temple and the man and checked out all the cool sculptures in the dessert - so much to see. More people arrived yesterday and all the party tents kicked off too. There are some amazing sound systems. Everything imaginable is on show here. Last night we had a margerita in a giant moving blue shark!! Speaking of giant blue things, Rob has now been body painted and is a beautiful deep blue with little red hand prints all over him - photos to follow..
There is so much going on that sensory overload is almost impossible to avoid and we are taking it slow. The weather was cool yesterday but was so hot the day before (Monday) and today that we have decided not to drink and avoid getting dehydrated.
e have met some wondeful people, and some completely insane ones - it is awesome.
