shifted*exposure

I have been wanting to share my photography in new ways for some time now, so last week I started a photoblog shifted*exposure. As everyone knows, I take hundreds of photos and post most of the snapshots on this site, but I wanted a better way to share the photographs that I consider artistic and get some feedback and constructive critisism. I seldom publish those photos on this site because they don’t really fit in with the family or friends albums.

While searching the net for more information on photography, I became exposed to the trend of photoblogs. What is a photoblog? It is simply an online journal that consists of photographs instead of words. The word photoblog comes from the three words photo, web and log. Many people with photoblogs attempt to publish a new photo every day or sometimes once a week. I am very attracted to this idea since it forces you to get out there and take photos. It also forces you to start looking at the world in a new way, trying to see and distill the beauty in everything. I am going to attempt to add a new photo to shifted*exposure exposure every day and hopefully it will help me improve my photography.

I also discovered a site called Photo Friday that I will try and participate in. Every friday they post a word on the website and photographers around the world attempt to take or find in their collection a photo to represent that word. Last Friday’s word was obsession and I thought that a picture I took of the burn at burning man represented it well, so that was my post for the week. If you are interested, every submission I post will be archived in the Photo Friday category on shifted*exposure.

I have also joined the Burlington Trillium Photographic Club. It is another chance to see other people’s work and have my own work critiqued by other photographers. I submitted my first five photos to be critiqued a few weeks ago and received one honourable mention and one tops of clinic. Hopefully it wasn’t beginers luck.

So, check out shifted*exposure, give me some feedback on my photos and check back often.
