<description>Oh Rob, how refreshing to read your article. If we all did our bit, maybe, just maybe, we could halt global warming and improve our environment, if not for us, for the next generation!

We have energy efficient lightbulbs in the UK which we have all over the house, not sure if that's the same as fluorescent bulbs you've mentioned. You could also put on another jumper and a warmer pair of socks when it gets cold, therefore, not having to turn the heat up on the thermostat. Don't use air conditioning - do you realise how much energy these things use?

Get a steamer for your vegetables, use a pressure cooker to cook with. Put heavy curtains/drapes on your outside doors to minimise drafts. Double/triple glazing, thicker loft/wall insulation, get your boiler/furnace maintained regularly to run more efficiently, take showers instead of baths, don't run the water when cleaning your teeth! Walk as much as you can, leave the car behind - think how much better you will feel! Solar heating, don't fill the kettle up when only making a cup of tea or coffee for one or two. Eat less red meat (the amount of land needed to feed these animals is astronomical), don't patronise fast food joints! Recycle your waste - which I have to say the UK is getting there, but not as good as Canada!

I think I've probably dribbled on long enough, and I'm sure others will come up with better ideas than these, but it's a start. Good luck!
