Ineeka Tea

ineeka teaWhile trolling around the Internet this morning, I found another example of over-the-top excessive packaging. Today’s winner in the destroy the environment contest is ineeka tea. This is clearly a company that doesn’t get it. Their tag line is “cultivating consciousness” and they advertise that their tea is Certified organic, Fair Trade certified and Grown in India on an ecologically balanced family farm in the Himalayas.

It all sounds good until you look at the packaging. A measly 14 tea bags are packed in a metal tin for over ten dollars US! So, every fourteen cups of tea and another tin is off to landfill or into the recycling stream. If you want to tell them what you think of this, write to sg@ineeka.com.

This week our fridge that we paid $1200.00 for is now ‘pouched’, as they say, after ONLY 1year and 4 months! Apparantly with the new gas that has replaced Frion, it is not so compatable with the copper wire at the back (maybe we could ask Steve more about it). I would like to look more into it and whether my repair guy was just an angry man, but he seems to have the idea of….Fridges only last now between 7to12 years, then they are too expensive to fix ($800-$900), so we might as well buy a new one. Guess where the fridges go? Yes, the dump, ALL of it! They used to be recycled, but apparantly not the best business anymore. Apparantly, the gas corrodes the copper wire and within up to a year to 12 years later the gas leaks out. Our warranty covers it so far, so we still have a fridge, for at least another year! Also, when we orderd our fridge the front had a big scratch, THREE doors later, they got it right. I asked, where do all these doors go? “The dump.” the guy replied.UGGGHH!! I literally went cold at the thought of all those brand new doors going into a dump! Not ANY parts recycled! I suppose if you don’t go through the warranty or send it back to the company, you could have your fridge picked up by a second hand place. But who does this, unless they want to throw away $1200.00. Let me know if any of this is not accurate, but so far seems like a HUGE waste! (One fridge size, would take a lot of tea tins to add up to that size!)
