Organic Fruit and Vegetables

Verified OrganicAs anyone who knows us knows, both Juliette and I are very concerned about the environment and about the chemicals in our food. It was hard to live up to our standards though because the cost of organic vegetables at the grocery store is prohibitive, especially since both of us are vegetarians. We always did our best to buy local produce, and shopped at the farmers market when we could, but there was always that nagging feeling we could do more.

We had talked about joining a Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) group, but we didn’t know where to start. A CSA is a farm that produces a variety of crops using ecological, organic or biodynamic farming methods. The CSA is supported by its members who then receive a share of the crops.

A few weeks ago, I was listening to Andy Barrie of the CBC’s Metro Morning and he happened to be interviewing a local organic farmer. I immediately googled the farm and found plan b Organic Farm. Juliette and I discussed joining, but the decision was easy since the prices were less than we were spending on non-organic vegetables at the grocery store. We have signed up for the remainder of the year, and expect to continue.

My first delivery arrived yesterday and I must say, I am very impressed with the variety and quality of the vegetables and fruit. Because Juliette is away this week, I received a single order and was amazed at just how much it contained. It is so nice that they have made it so easy for us to live by our beliefs and eat so well. I would recommend it to anyone.
