Feeling Blue

The amazing thing is that no matter what you set out to do here, you will never get there. Between any two points, there are so many distractions that any attempt at plans are futile. Every day so far, we have set out with the intention of learning to fire dance, but we have never found our state of poi.

We began yesterday with Thai massage lessons, then stumbled upon the colorful people. Having never experienced being a visible minority, I decided to get in touch with my blue side. I stepped into the pool and transformed into my new self.

With my new mask of identity we headed to center camp for coffee and to see and be seen. It was a wonderful experiment seeing how I relate to people differently when I am able to cast off the social filters and defences that we all hold onto so tightly.

Yesterday was hotter, so we spent the afternoon and into the evening drinking wine and snacking on smoked oysters, crackers and cheese with new friends. We began the night at a dance club chilling on pillows in a geodome, but feeling like moving at a slower speed, we headed for the Swinger’s Bar (in name only) and grooved into the night to some of the best Jazz I have heard in a long while.

The sun is now rising on another day on the Playa and I am standing on the top of my van chasing fleeting wireless connections and watching the shower seeking naked souls chase the water truck as it wets the roads in a futile atempt to keep the desert dust down.
