Router Issues

We had a router failure this morning, so the server has been offline all day.  Normally when this happens, I just need to reboot our wireless router and everything is fine again, so I did that and headed off to work.  Then, much to my dismay as I sat down to my morning coffee, I couldn’t check my email or bring up the site.  I called home and had Juliette go through the checklist, but that didn’t bring things back.  Things were serious, she couldn’t even connect to the router’s web interface.

The router has been acting flaky for awhile, so I did my research this afternoon and purchased a new high end router on the way home.  It cost a bit, but it should prove much more reliable.  With Juliette starting her new business and her employees connecting to our CRM application through the router, reliability is now more important.

It took me awhile to remember what my DSL username and password were, but now everything seems to be back up.  What about the old router?  It seems like it managed to reset itself to factory defaults which is on the same subnet as our iTunes wireless network resulting in routing conflicts and making diagnosing the problem difficult.   Now I guess it will be moving to the basement or upstairs to extend our network.
