A Real Canadian Winter

After several years of crazy winters, we are finally having a real Canadian winter again, the sort where you can get out and enjoy yourself. I have even been catching Juliette saying stuff like “its not so bad, its ‘a dry cold.'” It is amazing the difference it makes when it is not constantly freezing and thawing. We have several feet of snow now and it is light, dry and clean. We drove up to Collingwood on Friday night in a serious winter storm. Several roads were closed and the blowing snow reduced visibility to zero at times. It took us forever, but the effor was worth it as we woke to feet of fresh snow on Saturday. Steve and I chased the knee deep powder before it was tracked out and we had an all-around amazing weekend.

Steve’s sister Amber was up with her husband Peter and daughter Aura. Dave and Jane brought Alex down and we took them tubing down the mountain Saturday night. Sunday afternoon, Juliette, Steve, Terry and I went snowshoing up the mountain and had a great time in the sunshine and deep snow. I have posted a few pictures of snowshoeing in the photo albums if anyone wants to see them.

The weekend unfortunately ended on a sadder note. My grandmother fell last night and broke her hip. She is in surgery as I write and we are all very worried for her.
