Spring in Ontario

Paula and JulietteThe weather for the most part this Spring has been warm and quite dry so the first weekend after we got back from France we headed for Buffalo crag with Tim and Lisa and did one of our first outdoor climbs this year. Actually, for Lisa it was her first ever outdoor climb, and, as usual, she stepped up to the challenge like the cool headed chic that she is.

Rob turned 38 last week and we had yet another great meal at the Lowville Bistro to celebrate. As usual, the food was spot on and the waiter (the spitting image of a young John Malkovich) sang ‘Happy Birthday Mr President’ to Rob in his best Mariyn Monroe voice whist we ate cheese cake with a candle in it. Quite the experience.

Not more than one week later was the Paris to Ancaster mountain bike race. With a choice of either a 30km or 60km route and the opportunity to ride with a big group of friends and about 1,500 other people from all over the province wanting to kick start their riding season it is a really fun event and worth having to get up at 6.30am on a Sunday morning. Although most of our riding group produced some phenomenal results (congrats to Carl, Debs, Wayne, Helen, Dave and Lisa in particular.)

Rob and Juliette’s race turned into a bit of an epic. Rob had the misfortune of swallowing some past due date Hammer Gel during the race (for the uninitiated, Hammer Gel is a syrup that a lot of atheletes use to give them a quick energy hit when racing) and ended up hurling at the finishing line (although he still produced a very respectable race time). Juliette lost her rear derailler at the the eighteenth kilometre and rode single speed for the remaining 42km. Great fun, and the subject of a lot of surprise from other riders along the way, but a bit slow….thank God for ipods and bike mechanics.

After allowing a couple of days for recovery we hooked up with a couple of girlfriends and went clubbing in Toronto at The Mod Club. Check out the photos of everything we’ve been up to in the newly updated photo albums.
